Youth music school

The youth music school was founded as an association in 1953. Its members were freelance music teachers, but also friends of culture, including city councillor Johannes Maaß. The youth music school followed the idea of offering music lessons to broad sections of the population, which is why the focus was on group lessons (especially in the recorder). The association uses state and private school buildings. When the Güntzel Music Seminar and the Wiesbaden Conservatory merged to form the Wiesbaden Music & Art School in 1991, the Youth Music School remained independent. It receives subsidies from the Association of German Music Schools (VdM) and some supporting members.

Since 2008, there has been a cooperation with the Otto-Stückrath-Schule in the project "Jedem Kind ein Instrument" (JeKi), and since 2010 the project "Musik für alle" (Music for All) has been running in cooperation with the Clément Foundation. In recent years, the number of music students taught has grown significantly, as has the number of subjects taught (instruments, early music education, musicals) and the number of teaching locations. In the anniversary year 2013, around 550 pupils were taught by around 20 teachers at 20 locations. Ria Matthias has been working as principal since 2012.
