Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG)
The Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) was created in 2000 from the merger of the Hessian State Institute for the Environment (HLfU) and the Hessian State Agency for Soil Research (HLfB). The latter was founded in 1971 and since then has occupied several properties in the Wiesbaden city area: in the Palasthotel on Kranzplatz, in Aarstraße, in Bleichstraße, in Mühlgasse, Unter den Eichen and, since 1992, in the Rhine barracks. The HLfB was established in 1946 and was located in Parkstraße, in the Wiesbaden Museum in Rheinstraße, in Mainzer Straße and 1960-2001 on Leberberg.
The HLNUG is a scientific and technical environmental authority. Specialists from various disciplines work here on the investigation and evaluation of the main media of our environment - water, soil and air - as well as the habitats and species relevant to nature conservation in Hesse. HLNUG provides scientific, technical and practical advice to ministries and other authorities and regularly informs both experts and the public through publications, events and the Internet. The aim of HLNUG is to improve the quality of our environment and to keep it in good condition for future generations.
HLNUG has its headquarters in the Rhine barracks in Biebrich. The authority also has branch offices in Kassel, Darmstadt, Giessen and Bad Hersfeld as well as in Ebsdorfergrund, Hünstetten and Villmar.
