The Hessian Association of Cities and Towns is the central municipal association representing the interests of currently 71 member cities and municipalities vis-à-vis the Hessian state parliament and the state government. The Hessian Association of Cities and Towns has been based in Wiesbaden since April 1, 1971. For more than 35 years, the office worked in a villa at Frankfurter Straße 10. In September 2006, the Hessian Council of Cities moved to Frankfurter Straße 2.

In 1971, two previously independent associations merged in Wiesbaden to form the new Hessian Council of Cities and Towns: the Hessian Association of Cities and Towns, founded in 1946 and based in Bad Homburg, and the former Hessian Council of Cities and Towns.

The association represents the interests of its members in all areas of public life. In legislative procedures of the state parliament, ordinances, decrees and other measures of the state government, it is the responsibility of the Hessian Cities Council to ensure that the interests of its member cities are taken into account. Representation is carried out by the association's executive committee. Until now, the president has always been a mayor from one of Hesse's major cities, including the two later Minister Presidents Walter Wallmann and Hans Eichel.

The office in Wiesbaden coordinates the work of the committees and advises the members on legal and administrative issues. An important role is also played by providing members with regular and timely information on important developments in federal, state and local politics.
