Hessian Center for Data Processing (HZD)

When the Hessian Data Processing Act came into force in 1970, the Hessian Data Processing Center (HZD) was established as an information technology service provider for the Hessian state administration.

It operates as a state-run business and is subject to the supervision of the Hessian Ministry of Finance. Around 800 employees work at the two locations in Wiesbaden and the branch office in Hünfeld, which was opened in 1990 and has since been primarily responsible for the judiciary.

In close cooperation with all Hessian ministries and their subordinate authorities, the Hessian State Parliament, the Hessian State Chancellery and the "E-Government and Administrative IT" department of the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and Sport, standards are introduced and expanded throughout Hesse. The Hessian Centre for Data Processing carries out IT projects, organizes the Hessian IT network, maintains the software and is also the central procurement office for information technology.

Around €187 million was spent in 2015, with €26 million going towards procurement. The data center's 2,800 servers offer storage space for 150 terabytes.
