Helmut Schön Sports Park

The Helmut Schön Sports Park was built in 1907 as the "Stadion an der Berliner Straße" by the Wiesbaden 1899 sports club under the direction of architect Wilhelm Immel. With the pitch, a clubhouse, bowling alleys and tennis courts, the pitch was an important facility and was opened with a much-noticed inauguration ceremony in which the French soccer club Cercle Athlétique de Paris took part as an international guest. Today, the stadium has a capacity for around 11,000 spectators and is the largest sports stadium in Wiesbaden alongside the Brita-Arena. The facility was renamed in 2009 in memory of the former coach of the German national soccer team, Helmut Schön. The sports facility had already been transferred to the city of Wiesbaden in 1925, but remained the home and venue of SV Wehen Wiesbaden 1899.

In addition to soccer, the Helmut Schön Sports Park is primarily used for athletics and American football events. It is also a training and competition venue for the Wiesbadener Leichtathletik-Verein (WLV). The Wiesbaden Phantoms, schools and sports associations also use the Helmut Schön Sports Park.

The old pitch and two hard courts had to make way for the construction of the neighboring Brita-Arena, an artificial turf pitch and a new pitch were built as part of the stadium construction, and the old grandstand roof was replaced with a new one in 2008.
