Local museums
Local history and heritage societies have set up museums in many Wiesbaden districts.
Founded on February 7, 1970, the "Museum Heimat- und Industriegeschichte Biebrich" offers a permanent exhibition on the history of Biebrich and the Duchy of Nassau. It is run by the Verschönerungs- und Verkehrsverein Biebrich am Rhein e.V. (Biebrich on the Rhine Beautification and Tourist Association). In March 2002, at the start of the celebrations to mark the 1075th anniversary of Wiesbaden-Bierstadt, the Bierstadt Local History Association, founded in 1959, officially opened its local history museum in the Robert Koch School. The Delkenheim local history museum is now located on the first floor of the fire station. A special feature is its small collection of traditional Hungarian costumes. The museum is run by the Delkenheim Local History Association, which was founded in 1988.
The museum of local history was founded in 1985 in the former Dotzheim police station. It is run by the Heimat- und Verschönerungsverein Dotzheim e.V. and sheds light on the history and development of Dotzheim from the end of the 19th century until its incorporation in 1928. The Erbenheim Homestead Museum, which opened in 1984, is run by the association of the same name. Among other things, agricultural equipment and archaeological finds are on display here.
The Castellum Museum was opened in the former Reduit barracks in May 1990 and displays exhibits from Roman times, the Renaissance, Baroque and modern times. The facilities also include the "Roman Arch of Honor" museum as well as the rafting museum in the Schönborn bastion and the Erbenheimer Warte.
The Kostheim Local History Museum, run by the Kostheim Local History Association founded in 1974, displays finds from Celtic and Roman times, as well as exhibits on the industrial history of the town and is dedicated to rafting. The Medenbach local history museum is housed in the attic of the former school and is run by the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein 1993 e.V. (local history association). Finds from the Stone Age and Roman times are among the oldest exhibits.
The museum of the local history and heritage association in Naurod shows a cross-section of the history of village life and the biography of local poet Rudolf Dietz. The Nordenstadt local history museum, which opened in 1995, is run by the local history association (founded in 1986). Here you will find, among other things, a "corner store", a hairdressing salon and a cobbler's workshop. Special exhibitions are held in the "Old Spritzenhaus".
The Schierstein local history museum, housed in a baroque town house since 1988, displays exhibits from the Neolithic and Roman periods as well as on the topics of fishing, viticulture and agriculture. The exhibition in the keep of Sonnenberg Castle deals with the history of the Sonnenberg churches and the castle. The museum is run by the Heimatverein Sonnenberg e.V., which was founded in 1951.
The Wiesbaden-Klarenthal district archive, which is run by the Volksbildungswerk Klarenthal e.V., has set up a virtual district museum that is publicly accessible on the Internet and is designed and supplemented by historically interested volunteers.
