Painter, commercial artist
born: 28.05.1922 in Wiesbaden
died: 01.10.1977 in Wiesbaden
Hammesfahr learned shop window design and was a student of the landscape painter Paul Dahlen in the 1930s. From 1939 to 1945, he took part in the Second World War as a soldier in the Soviet Union and Italy. After his release from captivity, he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and traveled abroad on numerous occasions; he then processed his travel impressions in paintings. In 1947, he exhibited for the first time at the Mergel Gallery in Herderstraße. Since then, exhibitions of his paintings, drawings and watercolors have been held annually in Wiesbaden's Brunnenkolonnade. He had been a member of the Ring Bildender Künstler since 1946 and the board of the Wiesbadener Künstlerbund since 1951.
In 1952, Hammesfahr founded a studio for commercial art in Wiesbaden. In those years, he captured Wiesbaden motifs in numerous ink and charcoal drawings. A small studio in Born im Taunus served as his retreat. Hammesfahr is a brother of the interior designer, graphic artist and painter Felix Hammesfahr, who was married to the painter Erika Kohlhöfer-Hammesfahr.
