In 1816, Hadeln was taken over by the Electorate of Hesse as a lieutenant in order to establish the Nassau military school. From 1820 he organized the Nassau artillery, of which he was chief (ultimately as colonel) until 1850. From 1833-39 Hadeln was also governor to Hereditary Prince Adolph (later Duke Adolph zu Nassau) and Prince Moritz zu Nassau; from 1850 he was general in command of all Nassau troops. In 1860 he was appointed Privy Councillor with the title of Excellency. Hadeln was also ordered to attend numerous diplomatic negotiations at various courts. He spent his retirement in Wiesbaden from 1862. In 1814, Hadeln took part in the campaign against France as an officer of the Electorate of Hesse, and in 1848 he was deployed with the Nassau artillery in Baden. He is buried in the Old Cemetery.
