Gaab, Christian

Master carpenter

born: 26.10.1828 in Wiesbaden

died: 17.12.1901 in Wiesbaden

The master carpenter Gaab was a member of the citizens' committee and municipal council as well as co-founder of the men's gymnastics club TUS Eintracht Wiesbaden 1846 and the voluntary fire department (1850). He was also one of the founders of the Wiesbaden Local Trade Association, which he chaired for more than 30 years, and the Central Trade Association for Nassau. The construction of the trade school in Wellritzstraße in 1881 can be regarded as his greatest achievement. A bronze plaque with his portrait at the entrance to the school commemorates Gaab.

The city of Wiesbaden honored him by awarding him an honorary citizenship (1896) and naming a street after him.
