The bust was erected in 1996 in the Kurpark, below the Nizza square and overlooking the south side of the Kurhaus, to commemorate the visits of the Russian writer Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky to the Wiesbaden casino between 1863 and 1871.

The realistic portrait bust was created by the Russian painter, graphic artist and sculptor Gabriel Glikman (1913-2003), a student of Marc Chagall, who had lived and worked in Munich since 1982. Glikman created several portraits of Dostoyevsky and other artists such as the composer Dmitri Shostakovich, with whom he was friends.
