Federal Sports and Archery Performance Center
The Federal Sports and Archery Training Center is the central training and education facility of the German Shooting Association (DSB) in Klarenthal. It is affiliated to the Hesse Olympic Training Center in Frankfurt am Main and has shooting facilities for all Olympic shooting disciplines up to 50 m and archery, training facilities as well as accommodation and supply areas.
The Federal Sports and Archery Training Center has the task of securing and expanding the position of the DSB as one of the largest and most successful sports associations in the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). Among other things, it is the location for all central activities of the national teams for the Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines. As a conference facility, it serves as the DSB's congress and training center. Numerous national teams from all over the world use the Bundesleistungszentrum Sport- und Bogenschützen for courses and training purposes as well as to prepare for international competitions in Europe.
From 2015, the Federal Sports and Archery Performance Center was completely rebuilt with the support of the City of Wiesbaden, the State of Hesse and the Federal Republic of Germany. The facility is being developed into a performance center for top Paralympic sport and thus into a joint training center for disabled and non-disabled athletes. It is also a training, education and congress center for the international shooting and archery associations.
The Bundesleistungszentrum Sport- und Bogenschützen emerged from the shooting school, which the DSB established in 1961 under its president Dr. Georg von Opel (1912-1971) with the support of the city of Wiesbaden. The facility also includes the clay target shooting range on the Freudenberg, which was converted into the most modern facility of its kind in Europe in 2007. Between 1960 and 1973, the Freudenberg hosted the German Sport Shooting Championships and in 1966 the 40th World Shooting Championships.
