Bärenherz Foundation
The Bärenherz Foundation was established in 2003 as a result of an initiative to set up a hospice for seriously ill children. The foundation supports projects and facilities for terminally ill children and young people. This includes the Bärenherz children's hospice in Erbenheim, which opened in 2002. It offers space for ten children and young people who receive comprehensive care, nursing and loving support. Relatives also receive medical and psychological support and advice. In addition to the facility in Wiesbaden, the foundation also supports the children's hospice in Markkleeberg near Leipzig and the Nesthäkchen children's home in Heidenrod-Laufenselden in the Rheingau-Taunus district. In 2008, the Bärenherz Foundation was awarded the Bambi media prize for its work. In 2014, it received the Georg August Zinn Medal from Hesse's Minister President Volker Bouffier for its services to the common good.
