Archives
The Hessian Main State Archive Wiesbaden is the most important and oldest "House of History" in Wiesbaden.
In Wiesbaden there are other publicly accessible archives of state and municipal institutions, but also of the economy, such as the archive of the Hessian State Parliament, the Wiesbaden City Archive and the archive of the Henkell & Co. sparkling wine producer.
The archives of the state parliament and the documents it holds, which have arisen from parliamentary work, date back to the beginnings of the Hessian state government in 1946. The minutes of meetings, printed matter, draft laws, ordinances and treaties are primarily available to members of parliament, but also to academics and journalists. Use is regulated by archive statutes.
The Henkell und Söhnlein company archive, which has existed in this form since the 1970s, contains management files, general company documents and a large selection of advertisements, films, posters and other advertising media used to promote the sparkling wine. This archive is also accessible on request.
Another business archive, that of the cement company Dyckerhoff GmbH, was handed over to the city archive a few years ago. The records include extensive correspondence, company documents, numerous photos and annual reports as well as the Dyckerhoff family archive. A few years earlier, the Kalle and Albert company archives had already been handed over to the city archive, whose holdings include a large number of early advertising and ozaphan films.
