The Wiesbaden Music Academy (WMA) is the vocational academy for music education in the state capital of Wiesbaden.

The institute goes back to the Wiesbaden Conservatory founded in 1888. As early as 1906, regular diploma examinations for music teachers were held at the former conservatory as part of the Prussian Conservatory Association. In 1926, it was recognized by the state as a "Seminar for Music Teachers". From 1954, the institute was located in the so-called Pagenstecher-Villa am Kurpark (Bodenstedtstraße 2).

After 1970, the seminar department at the Wiesbaden Conservatory increasingly specialized in music pedagogy training, which concluded with the state music teacher examination (SMP). This resulted in an extensive expansion of the range of courses on offer and increasing student numbers.

On April 1, 1991, the study department of the Wiesbaden Conservatory was transferred to the newly founded Wiesbaden Music Academy (WMA) and has been under municipal sponsorship ever since. Since January 2000, the Music Academy has been located at Schillerplatz in the center of the state capital.

In 2003, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Wiesbaden Music Academy and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. This made it possible for students at the music academy to complete their training - in addition to the state music teacher examination - with a university diploma in music education.

On January 1, 2012, the institute was converted by the state of Hesse from a technical college into a municipal vocational academy for the Bachelor of Music (music education) course. The degree corresponds to the qualification guidelines for German university degrees. The accredited course of study is based on the criteria of the "European Credit Transfer System".

The Wiesbaden Music Academy offers almost ninety study places and thus guarantees a subject-specific education with a highly individual character. The wide range of subjects is taught by almost forty lecturers.

The focus of the four-year course is on individual instruction in the main subject and the dual training typical of vocational academies.

The institute cooperates closely with the Wiesbaden Music & Art School (WMK) in terms of content and organization. Observations, supervision and teaching experiments in individual and group lessons take place in cooperation with the music school. The practical subjects provide ideal preparation for the professional field of instrumental and vocal pedagogy as well as elementary music education. Seminars in music education and educational science complete the dual system. Courses in the fields of jazz and popular music as well as media practice provide up-to-date references to modern professional practice. Regular academy days and guest lectures provide students with interdisciplinary insights into special subject areas.

The wide range of courses offers optimal preparation for everyday working life at music schools and in the independent profession as a music teacher.
