Local councils

The local advisory councils are "district parliaments" and play an important role in the democratic decision-making process in the city because - as experts on the local situation - they advise the municipal council and the city council.

The local advisory councils are an active link between the citizens of the district and the town hall.

The local advisory council must be consulted on all important matters concerning the district - in particular when drawing up the budget. It also has the right to make proposals and answer questions from the municipal council and the city council when it comes to its district. The resolutions of the local advisory council are generally not binding for the municipal council and the municipal council assembly, although there is an exception for the naming of streets, for example. However, the resolutions of the local advisory councils play an important role in the deliberations of the municipal bodies.

The meetings of the local advisory councils are generally open to the public. They are chaired by the head of the local council or their deputy.
