Wallufer Platz is being renovated
Wallufer Platz in the Rheingau district is being redesigned. This was initiated by Mayor Christiane Hinninger.
On a total area of 5000 square meters, near Schiersteiner Straße, there are several play areas and recreation rooms. Due to the intensive use in the densely populated Rheingau district, a lot of play equipment and seating needs to be replaced. "We are also creating more greenery and shaded areas to reduce overheating for young and old as a result of climate change," explained mayor and founder Christiane Hinninger.
Back in the fall, residents had the opportunity to make suggestions and express their wishes online and on site. The more than 2,500 suggestions from young to old were incorporated into the plans, which are now being drawn up in two draft versions. Climbing, sliding, swinging and jumping are very popular with children. The neighborhood square should be designed to be multifunctional, open and equipped with plenty of shaded seating and places to relax. The topics of water and more greenery in the square were equally important to all age groups.
Subject to the approval of the city councillors, the play area for older children and the neighborhood square will be redesigned. Existing play equipment will be added to the area for younger children. The football pitch, which is still in good condition, will be retained.
The two preliminary design variants will be presented to the public for approval this summer. Construction is scheduled for the second half of 2026 and the 1.3 million project should be completed in early 2027.
"We want to create a high-quality, landscaped exercise area that invites people to play and provides cooling shade. For the residents of the Rheingau district, Wallufer Platz should be an appealing and identity-forming meeting place in the neighborhood - even more so than it is today," says Mayor Hinninger of the project.
