OB run-off election: Information on postal voting
Eligible voters who wish to vote by postal ballot in the run-off election for Lord Mayor should note the following information.
In the case of written applications that are only sent shortly before the run-off election, it can no longer be guaranteed that the postal voting documents will be received by the electoral office in time to be counted. If you want to be sure that your vote will actually be counted, you should make use of the opportunity to vote in person in advance.
You can do this
- at the election office, Friedrichstraße 16, 1st floor, side building (opposite the Dern'sches Gelände bus stop), Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Residents of the outlying districts can vote at the local administration office responsible for them during its opening hours. All local administrations (except Auringen, Delkenheim, Medenbach and Schierstein) will also be open on Friday, March 28, at least from 10 am to 1 pm.
The online postal vote application on wiesbaden.de will be taken offline on Wednesday, March 26, 12 noon. The electoral office is also asking eligible voters to vote in person at the postal voting offices.
Applications for postal voting can only be submitted until Friday, March 28, 1 pm. Applications received after this time may no longer be processed.
In the event of proven sudden illness, postal voting documents can still be issued at the electoral office, Friedrichstraße 16, 1st floor, until 3 p.m. on the run-off election day.
However, if an eligible voter can credibly prove that he or she has not received a ballot paper that has already been issued, a new ballot paper can be issued by 3 p.m. on the run-off election day (Wahlamt, Friedrichstraße 16).
Postal voting documents may only be handed over to third parties if the authorization to receive them is proven by presenting a written power of attorney. The power of attorney may only be used if the authorized representative does not represent more than four voters; this must be confirmed in writing upon receipt of the documents.
Anyone who has not yet returned their postal voting documents to the electoral office should do so immediately. Only absentee ballots received at the electoral office, Friedrichstraße 16, by 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, will be counted. Election letters can also be posted there on election day.
The polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Sunday of the run-off election. Eligible voters can find the relevant polling station at the top of their polling card (highlighted in yellow). Anyone who has misplaced or lost their polling card or has not received one but is on the electoral roll can still vote. However, it is essential that you bring an ID with you to the election.
When entering the polling station, voters receive their ballot paper. Each voter has one vote. The vote is cast in such a way that the eligible voter indicates which of the two candidates they wish to vote for by placing a cross in a circle. Any other information will invalidate the ballot paper.
Anyone who has inadvertently written on a ballot paper should ask the election committee to give them a new one to ensure that no invalid votes are cast. The prescribed ballot paper does not have to be cast.
If you have any questions, please contact the electoral office at Friedrichstraße 16 on (0611) 314501. This line is also available until 6 p.m. on election day.
