Digital participation for senior citizens: smartphone courses at Zukunftswerk

The successful cooperation between the Department for Smart City, Europe and Public Order and the Wiesbaden Seniors' Advisory Council will continue in 2025: From April, regular smartphone courses will be held at Zukunftswerk, offering senior citizens the opportunity to develop digital skills and become more confident in using modern means of communication.

The courses take place at Zukunftswerk, Kirchgasse 6, on the second floor of the Luisenforum, and are run by experienced course instructor Kirsten Kelly. Each 90-minute course is specifically designed to reduce fears of the digital world and teach practical skills.

"Today, digital participation is no longer a question of age, but a key to greater independence and quality of life in old age. With the Zukunftswerk, we have created a place that supports precisely these goals and encourages senior citizens to develop and deepen their digital skills," explains Maral Koohestanian, the responsible Smart City department head.

Angelika Dortmann, Chairwoman of the Seniors' Advisory Council, also emphasizes the importance of the courses: "Many older people feel insecure in the digital space. Our courses help them to overcome these insecurities and show that digitalization opens up numerous possibilities and opportunities. I am delighted that we have been able to find the Department for Smart City, Europe and Public Order as a cooperation partner and can therefore continue the successful range of courses."

The participation fee is again 10 euros per person and course unit. Binding registration is required and is possible by telephone on 0163 960 0693 or by email to hallofragfraukellyde. Participants are asked to bring their charged smartphone including SIM card, PIN and passwords in order to be able to actively participate in the course.

With this initiative, the Department for Smart City, Europe and Public Order and the Seniors' Advisory Council are specifically promoting the digital participation of older people and supporting their social networking and digital independence in everyday life.
