Mayor Mende after firefighting operation in Wellritzstraße: thanks to emergency services and wishes for recovery for the injured

Following the firefighting operation in Wellritzstraße on Thursday night, February 27/28, in which five firefighters were injured, Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende expresses his concern and best wishes for their recovery.

"Our firefighters risk their lives every day to protect people and avert harm. This operation has once again shown the dangers to which they are exposed. My heartfelt thanks go to all the emergency services of the Wiesbaden professional fire department, the volunteer fire department and the members of the rescue service for their swift and professional actions. I wish the five injured firefighters a speedy and full recovery."

Lord Mayor Mende also emphasized the importance of the voluntary and professional commitment of the fire department in Wiesbaden: "It is the responsibility of all of us to support these emergency services in the best possible way and to ensure their safety. As a city, we will continue to do everything we can to ensure the best possible working and operational conditions."

Background: On Friday night, the Wiesbaden fire department was called to a fire in Wellritzstraße. Several garbage cans were on fire in the passageway of a building. During the extinguishing work, a large section of the ceiling cladding collapsed and injured a firefighter. A total of five firefighters suffered burns and smoke inhalation and had to be taken to hospital. The fire was brought under control and prevented from spreading further. The police have begun investigating the cause of the fire.
