Film about Edwin Moses at Caligari

To mark the end of "Black History Month", the Wiesbaden Cultural Office, in cooperation with the Institute for Ethnology and African Studies at the University of Mainz, will be showing the documentary "13 Steps - The Incredible Career of Edwin Moses" on Saturday, March 1, 5 p.m. at the Caligari Filmbühne, Marktplatz 9, followed by a film discussion.

Edwin Moses is one of the most extraordinary athletes in the history of sport. While studying physics at the famous Morehouse College in Atlanta, Edwin Moses taught himself the hardest discipline in athletics, the 400 meter hurdles. With his optimal running technique of 13 steps between the hurdles, he creates a historic winning streak with numerous world records and Olympic victories: Edwin Moses remains unbeaten for nine years, nine months and nine days. Even during his career, the Olympic champion fought for stricter doping controls, fair pay and equal rights. To this day, he is a role model for fairness and integrity - even far beyond the world of sport.

"13 Steps" links Moses' life with key moments in world history and shows how his personal triumphs reflect significant global and social changes.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Rachel Etse, ethnologist and trainer for racism-critical educational work in sport, Dr. Christiana Schallhorn, Institute for Sports Sociology, Mainz University, and Dr. Konstanze N'Guessan, Institute for Ethnology and African Studies, Mainz University. There will be another screening of the film at Caligari on Friday, March 7, 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.wiesbaden.de/caligari, at the box office or at the Tourist Information Office, Marktplatz 1, for nine euros, reduced eight euros, seven euros with a Wiesbaden Filmkunstkarte.
