Rettbergsaue starts the season
The recreational area on the Rettbergsaue will be open to visitors again from Friday, April 25. The popular Rhine island between Biebrich and Schierstein invites you to relax in the countryside with its spacious meadows, barbecue areas and numerous leisure facilities.
The site is expected to be open daily until mid-September: Mondays to Fridays from 9 am to 7 pm and Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and during the Hessian school vacations from 9 am to 8 pm.
The "Tamara" passenger ferry opens at the same time. It connects the Rettbergsaue with the Schierstein harbor and the Biebrich bank of the Rhine. The ferry does not run on Mondays. Alternatively, the newly built footbridge and cycle path under the Schierstein bridge is available. This can be used on all days of the week, but is only accessible from the Wiesbaden bank. On the Mainz side, a metal section still needs to be replaced. The city of Mainz and Autobahn GmbH have not yet opened the section of the footbridge between Rettbergsaue and Mainz.
There are six barbecue areas, a children's playground, a football pitch, table tennis tables, a ground chess field and basketball and volleyball courts on the Rettbergsaue. There is also an outdoor bowling alley. A restaurant with an outdoor terrace completes the leisure facilities. Dogs are not allowed on the site. The use of disposable barbecues is not permitted.
Up-to-date information on opening times and leisure activities is also available via the mattiaqua app or at www.mattiaqua.de.
