New stork camera in Schierstein
A new camera has been installed on a stork's nest on the grounds of the Schierstein waterworks.
The webcam allows interested parties to observe the storks at close range via a live stream. This exciting measure was implemented as part of the Rhein.Main.Ufer concept - in collaboration with the local association "Storchengemeinschaft Schierstein e.V.".
The camera is self-powered via a solar panel and was attached to a bracket on the mast. The stork couple accepted the new technical aid well and returned to the nest immediately after installation. In the meantime, there are already two eggs in the nest, so that the young can be expected to hatch from May. All nature lovers now have the unique opportunity to observe the rearing of the young storks at close range.
Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende emphasizes the importance of the project: "This live webcam is a great example of how modern technology and nature conservation can go hand in hand. It allows us all to experience the fascinating world of storks up close and helps to raise awareness for the conservation of our native wildlife. I would like to thank everyone involved for making this wonderful project possible."
The Storchengemeinschaft Wiesbaden-Schierstein e.V. supported the project with great commitment. The technical implementation was carried out by the Wiesbaden-based IT company Müller & Sittig. The project received financial support from the RhineMain Regional Park and Smart City Wiesbaden.
Further information on the project and the link to the live stream can be found on the website of the state capital Wiesbaden https://www.wiesbaden.de/storchenkamera. (opens in a new tab)
In addition, a QR code with access to the live stream will be displayed in the association's showcase on the footpath along the dyke. At the same time, an information board on birdlife is currently being created. As soon as this is completed in late summer, the livestream and QR code will also be available there.
