Online event on the Wiesbaden participation standard
As part of the series "Jetzt aber mal grundsätzlich!", the Department of Social Affairs is hosting an online event on Tuesday, April 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. on the topic of "Unequal city, unequal opportunities - Wiesbaden's approach to participation standards".
Wiesbaden is a divided city: after Offenbach, it has the highest poverty rate in the Rhine-Main region - at the same time, Wiesbaden is home to the highest number of millionaires after Frankfurt. These social inequalities are reflected in the city's structure. While privileged living conditions prevail in Sonnenberg, Frauenstein or the Dichterviertel, districts such as Innere Westend, Schelmengraben or Gräselberg are significantly more affected by poverty.
The digital event deals with key questions of social justice in the city: How does poverty affect opportunities for participation - especially for children and young people? What are living conditions like in neighborhoods with a high poverty rate? What does it mean to "treat unequal things unequally"? What municipal approaches are needed - and what does the "Wiesbaden Participation Standard" do?
The participants will be welcomed by Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of Social Affairs, Education and Housing in the state capital of Wiesbaden. She emphasized in advance: "Social inequality often manifests itself in certain districts. With the Wiesbaden Participation Standard, we are targeting these areas in order to give all citizens - regardless of where they live - equal opportunities for education, work and social participation."
Background: The digital series "Jetzt aber mal grundsätzlich!" from the Wiesbaden Social Department takes place four times a year. It offers space for current reports, data and professional exchange in the field of social affairs. The format is organized by the Policy and Planning Department in the Office for Social Work. It is aimed at specialists, multipliers and interested parties from practice, science and administration - and has long since established itself as a fixed platform for social policy issues.
Participation is free of charge and possible without prior registration.
