Fire department rescues fallen worker from shaft

This morning, a serious accident occurred on the site of a sewage treatment plant in Wiesbaden-Biebrich. During dismantling work at a construction site, a worker fell about six meters into a shaft and sustained serious injuries.

The control center then immediately alerted the fire and rescue services, including height rescuers from the Wiesbaden fire department. The emergency services first used portable ladders to gain access to the shaft in order to provide the injured man with rapid first aid.

The seriously injured worker was then lifted out of the shaft in a basket stretcher by the height rescuers using a pulley system provided on the construction site and additional safety devices. After the successful rescue, the patient was transported to a hospital in Wiesbaden for further treatment.

All three fire stations of the Wiesbaden fire department were deployed, as well as an emergency ambulance and an ambulance. (jh)
