Worth noting
Kfar Saba, which started as a small agricultural settlement, was founded in 1903. Today, it has more than 80,000 residents. Many of the young families act as host families and help to perpetuate the founding ideas of this special form of citizens’ encounters and thereby continue the cultural exchange.
Mutual visitors stay with host families in the other country, so they experience the every-day lives of their hosts in the evenings and on weekends, while their days are filled with tourist activities or participation in joint commemorative ceremonies, for instance in Yad Vashem or the former concentration camp at Buchenwald. These encounters have resulted in many close friendships between residents of Wiesbaden and Kfar Saba.
The lively twinning is also shaped by numerous cultural and educational contacts. Art exhibits and concerts are organized. Theatre groups from Israel have repeatedly been invited to Wiesbaden’s International May Theatre and Music Festival, and the Hesse State Theatre gave guest performances in Tel Aviv in 2005 and 2012.
Beyond that there are joint youth camps as part of the Trinational Youth Encounter, and regular student exchanges, as for instance between Wiesbaden’s Carl-von-Ossietzky School and Galili High School in Kfar Saba.
Both, the twinning association Freundeskreis Kfar Saba e.V. and the German-Israeli Society are committed to the needs of the twinning with Kfar Saba. The association organizes regular informative events in Wiesbaden on interesting topics surrounding Israel and the twinning.
