Fatih is the capital of the eponymous county of the Turkish Province of Istanbul, and a district on the European side of Istanbul. The parts of Fatih are separated by the Atatürk Bulvarı, an express highway that represents a second connection with the northern part of the city via Atatürk Bridge. Atatürk Bulvarı is spanned by the Valens Aqueduct (Bozdoğan Kemeri), which was built in the 4th century and connects Fatih and Eminönü. Since the days of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, Fatih has been famous for its mosques, and it was a district of scholar and poets.

Mosques, bazaars, water pipes, harems, minarets, samovars: those are just a few of the images we associate with the city between orient and occident, where history and present day melt into one. Few cities are as full of pulsating vivacity as the 15 million metropolis of Istanbul.
