Urban development projects

Ostfeld urban development measure

A new home for at least 10,000 people will be created in the south-east of our city - sustainable, innovative and social. A well thought-out and liveable place for everyone. Co-designed by the citizens of Wiesbaden. At the same time, we are planning a new, central location for the Federal Criminal Police Office.

The image shows the map of the city of Wiesbaden with the Ostfeld development area in the southeast of the city highlighted in color. The Ostfeld is located to the north of Mainz-Kastel, to the west of Erbenheim and to the south of Wiesbaden Südost.
Ostfeld development area

The Ostfeld project involves the development of a previously undeveloped area in the south-east of Wiesbaden. South of the A66, a new urban quarter is to be created around the Biehler Wäldchen. A central location for the Federal Criminal Police Office is planned to the north of the A66. The entire development area is around 450 hectares in size and forms the area of the "Ostfeld urban development measure". Over the coming years, residential, office and some commercial space will be created here, which Wiesbaden urgently needs. Three quarters of the area will be reserved for near-natural development, for example for agriculture or biotope network areas.

The new urban quarter - living space for at least 10,000 people

New living space for at least 10,000 people will be created on around 70 hectares around Biehler Wäldchen. The new urban quarter is being planned to suit a colorful, culturally diverse population of all ages. The aim is to create a liveable urban quarter that is geared towards people's needs - with functioning local amenities and a social infrastructure; with connected, green public spaces that are predominantly reserved for pedestrians and cyclists; with offers for leisure activities, local recreation and community activities in the immediate vicinity.

The picture shows urban gardening areas between the residential buildings. It also shows children playing and people relaxing and working in the small gardens.

A new location for the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA)

The new central location for the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) is being built on approx. 30 hectares north of the A66. The aim of the Federal Criminal Police Office is to merge its locations, which have so far been scattered around Wiesbaden, into a single, innovative ALL IN ONE authority campus - located in Ostfeld. This planned merger has a clear advantage for Wiesbaden: the authority and numerous jobs can remain in Wiesbaden.

The picture shows a central campus square with people strolling around. The square is framed by office buildings and has green areas, trees and inviting seating.

Ostfeld ideas competition

The picture shows a draft of the planned urban quarter. It shows the houses, green axes, education campus and streets. The future urban quarter nestles around the Biehler Wäldchen and connects to the existing settlement at Fort Biehler.

Jury has chosen the winner of the urban and landscape planning competition

The final meeting of the jury on October 31, 2024 at the Schlachthof cultural center marks the end of a very intensive competition process that lasted a year. The jury of almost 100 people selected the best designs for the new city quarter and the surrounding landscape as well as for the new BKA site ALL IN ONE and chose the winners.
