Urban development concept "Wiesbaden 2030+"
The Integrated Urban Development Concept Wiesbaden 2030 + was adopted by the City Council in May 2018. The concept is intended as a guide and basis for the redrafting of the land use plan of the state capital of Wiesbaden.
Why does Wiesbaden need an urban development concept?
The state capital of Wiesbaden has an integrated urban development concept for the city as a whole, which is intended to set "cornerstones" for Wiesbaden's development up to 2030 and beyond.
Wiesbaden's population figures have risen steadily. This is associated with major challenges in the focus of urban development. To this end, the city planning department has worked with the planners from Albert Speer + Partner to bring together the relevant areas in the city, such as living, working, open space and mobility, in a single concept. There is a particular focus on the increasing demand for residential and commercial space. Other key topics are the preservation of Wiesbaden's diversity, the promotion of environmentally friendly forms of mobility and the further development of natural and landscape areas for recreation as well as for ecological and climatic functions.
This allowed citizens to have their say
During the development of the Integrated Urban Development Concept Wiesbaden 2030+, a broad, cross-media public participation process was carried out by the city planning department together with the Zebralog agency. The aim was to closely link the technical development with the ideas of the citizens. All citizens were invited to actively contribute their ideas and wishes to the discussions. There were a variety of opportunities for participation on site and on the Internet. In addition to an online dialog, several district workshops, a workshop with young people, a photo competition and a painting activity with children took place. Another focus was on the intensive involvement of various experts from urban society, politics and administration.
What happens next?
The integrated urban development concept formulates overarching programmatic objectives and scope for land use for the period up to 2030 and beyond. The contents of the integrated urban development concept serve as the basis for future settlement development and the redrafting of the land use plan.
On October 31, 2019, the City Council resolved to draw up a new land use plan for Wiesbaden. This is a continuation of the process begun with the creation of an integrated urban development concept for the future-proof and sustainable urban development of Wiesbaden in the growing Rhine-Main metropolitan region.
