Seed exchange boxes
Swap, give, take... as it suits you! The Wiesbaden Seed Initiative together with the Environmental Advisory Service encourages this. In the Wiesbaden seed boxes, interested parties can find seed-resistant flower, herb and vegetable seeds to swap and take away. A great offer for the preservation of biodiversity.
Seeds can be passed on or taken away free of charge via the boxes provided. Anyone donating seeds can simply place the filled and labeled seed bags in the exchange boxes.
In order to promote and maintain plant diversity, seed initiatives recommend seed-resistant varieties. The seeds can be collected after flowering and replanted the following year. In contrast, many cultivated plants are now only available as hybrid seeds. This means that the plants cannot be propagated, dependence on seed companies increases and genetic diversity is lost.
Interested parties can find seed-resistant seeds in the seed exchange boxes. Here, home-grown, seed-resistant seeds are shared and exchanged free of charge. Whether flowers, herbs or vegetables, from bee pasture to tomatoes, there are no limits to the variety!
Locations of the seed exchange boxes
- Infoladen, Blücherstraße 46, 65195 Wiesbaden, in the backyard, open to the public at all times
- Umweltladen Wiesbaden, Luisenstraße 19, during opening hours
For good cooperation
To ensure that people and nature benefit from the seed exchange box, the following rules apply:
- Please only circulate self-harvested, seed-resistant seeds or seed-resistant organic seeds. No F1 hybrids! No genetic engineering!
- Sharing and exchanging seeds is a non-profit and non-commercial project. Seeds collected may not be resold and may only be sown on private land.
- We only eat what we know is safe to eat.
