Recycling station
Doing good with discarded cell phones, glasses, CDs, etc. - because waste is not always waste! A lot of waste contains valuable raw materials that can be used to produce new items. Collecting waste conserves our resources and helps to dispose of harmful substances safely.
Some waste collection systems also have a special ecological or social benefit in that the collected waste is financially compensated for the benefit of selected environmental or social institutions.

Collection containers for sorting selected types of waste are available at the Umweltladen, Luisenstraße 19 - join in!
You can hand in cell phones, glasses, CDs and DVDs, candles, ink and toner cartridges, corks and stamps at the Umweltladen.
- Cell phones: Cell phones are particularly worth returning because they contain valuable metals such as silver, gold, palladium, cobalt and copper. The cell phones are disposed of as electronic waste by the waste disposal company of the state capital Wiesbaden (ELW).
- Glasses: Under the auspices of the German Catholic Association for the Blind (Deutsches Katholisches Blindenwerk e.V.), the glasses collection campaign "Glasses Worldwide" collects glasses and sunglasses and passes them on to people in need around the world. Defective glasses are also collected and either repaired or replaced.
- CDs and DVDs: 99% of them are made of polycarbonate - a high-quality plastic that is reused in the computer and car industry after being collected separately. Cutting the disks with scissors makes them unreadable.
- Ink and toner cartridges: The empty ink and toner cartridges are cleaned and refilled by Interseroh Product Cycle GmbH. They are then used again in copiers or printers via the retail trade. The collection of cartridges via the Green Environment Box is rewarded with "Green Environment Points", which can be redeemed by educational institutions for rewards such as books or sports equipment.
- Corks: The bottle corks are forwarded to the Kalmenhof in Idstein. Here they are processed into a natural insulating granulate for ecological house construction. Kalmenhof is a socio-educational facility for young people and people with disabilities.
- Stamped stamps: Cancelled stamps are sorted by charitable organizations and sold to collectors all over the world. The proceeds are used for social projects.
- Candles: Candle wax residues are processed into new candles. 5% of the sales of the recycled candles are donated to a charitable organization. Candles made from this recycled wax can be bought in the Umweltladen.
