Planetary Health - What municipalities can gain
The 17th Sustainability Dialogue with Professor Dr. med. Christian Schulz, Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende and Mayor Christiane Hinninger took place on November 22, 2024 at the Kulturforum. The focus was on the question of how closely human health is linked to the health of our ecosystems.
Climate change and the overexploitation of natural resources pose an increasing challenge to our health worldwide, including here in Germany. Prof. Dr. Christian Schulz, Managing Director of the German Alliance on Climate Change and Health, showed in his presentation why the protection of our planetary ecosystems is inextricably linked to the protection of human health. And why many of the measures to protect our planet can simultaneously strengthen human health and increase the resilience of our societies.
The Planetary Health approach opens up new opportunities and possibilities for action - for municipalities, health actors and each and every individual.
What can we as a city, together with citizens, civil society and companies, do to protect our livelihoods and our health in the long term? Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, Mayoress Christiane Hinninger and interested citizens discussed this with Christian Schulz. The following experts took part in the discussion: Prof. Dr. med. René-Maxime Gracien (Head of the Wiesbaden Health Department) and Prof. Dr. Annette Franke (RheinMain University of Applied Sciences). The discussion was moderated by journalist Petra Boberg.
