Climate protection networks

Wiesbaden works with other cities and organizations on climate protection. We learn from each other and work together to find solutions for a sustainable future.

One example is membership of the Climate Alliance. It comprises over 2,000 municipalities from more than 25 countries. The alliance combines local measures with global responsibility and helps to implement climate protection in cities.

In 2025, Wiesbaden was honored for its 30-year membership in the Climate Alliance. This partnership demonstrates the importance of cooperation at local and global level.

Wiesbaden represented the Climate Alliance at the 2017 World Climate Conference in Bonn. Our best practice projects were presented at international conferences in Austria and Spain.

The climate municipalities are another important network. It is a Hessian alliance of cities, municipalities and districts that promotes municipal climate protection and adaptation to climate change. The member municipalities share their knowledge and exchange experiences. The state energy agency (LEA) provides support and advice.

Wiesbaden is also a member of the nationwide Municipal Climate Protection Working Group (AKK). The AKK brings together municipalities and experts who are particularly active in climate protection. It offers support and advice for local authorities and political decision-makers. The German Institute of Urban Affairs (DIfU) organizes and provides technical support for the working group.

By actively participating in these networks, we are strengthening climate protection in Wiesbaden and making a contribution to combating climate change at a local and global level.
