The Schierstein Riviera

Schierstein, picturesquely situated on the Rhine, enchants with its long history and distinctly Mediterranean flair.

The port of Schierstein

The riverside promenade, surrounded by yachts and sailing boats, gives the district an unmistakable Mediterranean flair. Locals and tourists alike stroll along the "Schierstein Riviera", enjoying the view of the Rhine and the numerous stork nests that characterize Schierstein. Built in 1859, the port is now a local recreation area and water sports center - a place to enjoy not only in the summer months. The Tamara ferry sails regularly to the Rettbergsaue island on the Rhine - much to the delight of the people of Wiesbaden.

Flowering time by the river

With the construction of the harbor, Schierstein experienced an economic boom. Fish restaurants settled here. The port was not only important for the local fishing industry, but was also a central transshipment point for rafts from the Main and Neckar rivers, which were joined here to continue their journey north. However, with the completion of the Osthafen in 1961, the old port lost its importance as an industrial transshipment point.

Business in Schierstein

Various companies have also settled around the town center. To the west was the Söhnlein Rheingold Sektkellerei, whose administration building is now used as the Rheingau-Palais. Glyco Metall-Werke, part of Tenneco since 2018, is located to the north of the railroad line. Schufa Holding AG has its headquarters at Osthafen. Numerous smaller companies are also active in the east of Schierstein, particularly along Alte Schmelze and Rheingaustraße.

Cultural highlights and events

Schierstein pulsates with life and culture. Every year in July, the Schierstein Harbour Festival, one of Wiesbaden's most popular public festivals, attracts thousands of people. The dragon boat regatta in particular, a fixture since 1939, provides exciting moments and unforgettable experiences. In addition, the Schiersteiner Jugendtag, a festival for local young people, takes place every two years and offers a colorful mix of activities and music. Other events, such as the Schiersteiner Kulturtage, shape the cultural image of the district.

Gateway to the Rheingau

Schierstein stands for modern quality of life. As the gateway to the Rheingau, the town offers access to picturesque hiking trails and wine regions that can be explored on foot or by bike.
