Igstadt: The gateway to the "Ländchen"

Igstadt combines historical tradition with modern life. The restored town center and idyllic surroundings make it a popular place to live and a destination for local recreation.

Geographical location

Situated on the eastern slope of the Wäschbach valley, Igstadt extends as far as the vicinity of Medenbach. The district is predominantly unwooded and is used for agriculture. The eastern part of the village is characterized by the Wickerbachtal nature reserve, which is a popular local recreation destination for walks and excursions.

Landmarks

Igstadt is often regarded as the gateway to the "Ländchen". The water tower, built in 1910, is particularly striking and can be seen from afar as the district's landmark. In the center of the village is the Protestant church with its beautiful interior and the church tower, which is also visible from afar.

With excellent transportation links, the town offers a direct connection to the railroad line between Wiesbaden and Niedernhausen as well as to the freeway junction in Nordenstadt. The B 275 and L 3023 roads quickly connect Igstadt with Wiesbaden and Bierstadt.

Activities and sights

Visitors to Igstadt will discover charming half-timbered houses, two old mills and a Franconian burial ground. In addition, the Hessian long-distance cycle path R 6 runs through the town and invites you on a discovery tour. The area around the Wickerbachtal valley is ideal for long walks and nature experiences.

Vibrant community life

There are a variety of events in Igstadt throughout the year, such as the Winterkerb at the beginning of January. The gymnastics club offers numerous sporting opportunities, the local history and heritage association organizes cultural events and local clubs enrich village life with activities such as the wine festival.

A highlight in Igstadt

Igstadt even has its own train station! It was opened in 1879 and is part of the "Ländchesbahn", which runs from Wiesbaden main station to Niedernhausen in the Taunus. Today it also serves as a residential building.
