Pact for the full day

Elementary school participating in the Pact for All-Day Education offer a reliable and voluntary education and childcare program for all pupils five days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and also during school vacations.

The state of Hesse provides resources in the form of teaching staff positions and funds to enable the school to offer care until 2.30 pm. The state capital of Wiesbaden is responsible for providing additional services until 5 p.m., organizing lunch and vacation care. Depending on the location, this is implemented in cooperation with the school support associations, independent providers or the Betreuende Grundschule (BGS).

The pact for all-day care was further developed by the state government in Hesse and offers the possibility of implementing a partially integrated form. Partially integrated means that there is at least one fixed all-day class per year group, in which all children are taught until 2.30 p.m. (compulsory until 2.30 p.m.), whereby the expansion to this point takes place gradually. This allows for a clearer rhythm throughout the day and week, i.e. an alternation of phases of concentration and relaxation, of rest and movement, cognitive and practical activities, but also of different forms and methods of teaching and learning.

The expansion to a partially integrated model can take place gradually, e.g. in ascending order from the first year. Due to the voluntary nature of the PfdG and in order to give parents a choice, at least one non-tied class must be offered per year group.

Participation in the all-day pact is voluntary, but binding once the child has registered.

A hot lunch is mandatory in the pact and an integral part of the pedagogical concept.

In the 2024/25 school year, eleven schools are offering the all-day pact; a total of 2,679 children are currently taking part in the all-day pact (as of August 2024).
