Pharmacy garden
The apothecary garden in the Aukammtal valley, near the spa gardens, presents over 250 medicinal and aromatic plants. The focus here is not on the splendor of the flowers, but on their health-promoting effects.
The medicinal plant garden shows which plants provide people with relief from ailments. Although pharmacists today no longer grow their own medicine in their own gardens, but use ready-made remedies, even modern pharmacy cannot do without herbal ingredients.
Opened in 1986, the pharmacy garden is a gem for those thirsty for knowledge and those seeking relaxation. Covering an area of 5,500 square meters, more than 250 medicinal and aromatic plants can be seen - and smelled - from mid-May to the beginning of October. The arrangement of the 28 beds is based on the effect of the plants and their medicinal benefits. For example, beds are dedicated to the topics of "liver and bile complaints", "digestive complaints" and "heart complaints".
Signs not only give the names of the plants, they also explain the use of the roots, flowers or leaves, for example, and their healing properties.
The Apothecary's Garden is a popular excursion destination with its straight or curved and organically rounded beds, modeled on medieval costal gardens. A small pond and the beds with their plants, herbs and shrubs, which are separated by grassy areas, make a visit to the garden a special experience close to nature. Round structures and wooden benches invite you to linger and enjoy.
From the end of May to mid-September, visitors can also take part in guided tours: Every Saturday afternoon, pharmacists, members of the Freundeskreis Apothekergarten Wiesbaden, accompany visitors on a voluntary tour of the educational and show garden.
