On May 20, 1965, the British Queen Elizabeth II honored the Hessian state capital with her visit.

Together with Prime Minister Zinn, Lord Mayor Buch welcomed the monarch in the Blue Salon of Wiesbaden City Palace. There, the Queen and her husband Prince Philip signed the city's Golden Book. This was followed by a large reception in honor of the guests in the Kurhaus, which was attended by numerous celebrities from politics and society.

In her 60-year reign over the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Commonwealth states, Queen Elizabeth II was head of state of 32 independent countries, half of which have abolished the monarchy over the years. These include, for example, Pakistan, South Africa, Kenya and Mauritius. In the other 16 states, such as Scotland, Canada and Australia, she continues to hold the office of head of state, even if she is usually represented by governors general in these parliamentary monarchies and assumes purely representative duties herself.
