Norway's head of government Einar Gerhardsen shakes hands with Lord Mayor Georg Buch.

On March 25, 1965, Norway's head of government Einar Gerhardsen visited the spa town with his wife.

Although it was a private visit followed by a trip to Berlin lasting several days, the statesman was invited to a festive breakfast by Prime Minister Zinn and his cabinet.

Afterwards, the guests marveled at the beauty of Wiesbaden during a city tour. After an informative talk about the senior citizens' care provided by the Lebensabend movement in the parish hall of the Marktkirche, the Norwegians went on an excursion to the Rheingau and had dinner at Schloss Reinhartshausen.

Due to the tight schedule and the short visit, Lord Mayor Buch and representatives of the magistrate gathered at the "Nassauer Hof" hotel during two program points to welcome the delegation on behalf of the city.

On this occasion, Buch recalled that both Gerhardsen and he had been interned in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp as victims of the National Socialists. He was all the more pleased to be able to welcome his guest to Wiesbaden today in better times and good health.

The Minister President thanked him for his hospitality and was pleased to note that the spa town is both old and new, but has retained much of its traditional character.

He then signed the city's Golden Book with his wife and the Norwegian ambassador before the delegation set off for their next appointment.
