25 years of town twinning Wiesbaden - Görlitz

On September 26, 2015, a delegation from Görlitz signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the twinning between Wiesbaden and Görlitz, the Lord Mayor of Görlitz, Siegfried Deinege, the former Lord Mayor, Prof. Dr. Rolf Karbaum and his wife Gabriele, as well as City Councillor Dr. Rolf Weidle, City Councillor Dr. Dieter Gleisberg and his wife Christine, and City Councillor Renate Schwarze and her husband Hans came to Wiesbaden as official representatives of the twin city for the celebrations, which took place from September 25 to 27, 2015.

The program began on Friday evening with a discussion with contemporary witnesses at the Villa Clementine Literature House, during which the origins of the town twinning were recapitulated in very moving accounts. Among others, the two former Lord Mayors of Wiesbaden, Achim Exner and Hildebrand Diehl, reported as contemporary witnesses on the adventurous way in which the relationship with Görlitz came about.

The highlight of the festive program was the reception in the ballroom of the town hall on Saturday morning, where the delegation from Görlitz signed the city's Golden Book in the presence of Lord Mayor Sven Gerich and City Council Chairman Wolfgang Nickel. The guests had the opportunity to view the two exhibitions "Peaceful Revolution in Görlitz" by the Görlitz Evangelical Churches and "Impressions from Görlitz" by Iris Heymann-Meinert, which were presented in the town hall.

The delegation accompanied Lord Mayor Sven Gerich and City Councillor Wolfgang Nickel to the opening of the Harvest Festival and later to the opening of the joint concert on the Dern'schen grounds, which took place in the context of the city festival.

The Görlitzers particularly enjoyed a short detour to the casino to take part in a public explanation of gambling.

On Sunday morning, after a walk through the city center, the delegation attended the joint concert of the music schools from Görlitz and Wiesbaden. A final impressive view over Wiesbaden from the Opelbad rounded off the program for the Görlitz guests.
