The Christa Moering Scholarship 2022 was awarded to Markus Walenzyk.

In memory of Wiesbaden painter and honorary citizen Christa Moering (1916 to 2013), the state capital of Wiesbaden awards a biennial scholarship to support artists. Artists whose place of residence, work or birth is Wiesbaden can apply for the scholarship, which is open to the public. A total of 26 applications from all areas of the visual arts were received for this year's theme "People"; all of them met the guidelines.

The jury was made up of Dr. Jörg Daur from Museum Wiesbaden, Head of Cultural Affairs Axel Imholz, Beatrix Klein from frauen museum wiesbaden, Margareta Tovar, the 2018 Christa Moering scholarship holder, and Christine Wagner-Hübinger from the Cultural Office - Visual Arts Department. After an in-depth discussion, the jury unanimously agreed on the artist Markus Walenzyk.

Scholarship holder 2022: Markus Walenzyk

Markus Walenzyk was born in Wiesbaden in 1976 and currently lives in Mainz. He deals intensively with the theme of "human beings" specified in the call for entries. The focus is on his own portrait, his own image. He experiments with different materials and creates new, artificial forms, shapes, mask-like faces and enigmas.

Walenzyk also transforms and deforms his own face. He also deals with the questions: What is a face? How many faces are there? Who is hidden behind the individual mask? He is concerned with the artistic questioning of identity. Walenzyk is not only at home in the field of video art. He uses a variety of different techniques such as graphic works and sculptures, which often fill an entire room. The Kunstverein Ludwigshafen dedicated a major solo exhibition to him in 2021.
