Christa Moering Scholarship 2020
The Christa Moering Scholarship, awarded by the state capital of Wiesbaden for the seventh time, went to the artist Ankabuta for 2020.
In memory of Wiesbaden painter and honorary citizen Christa Moering (1916 to 2013), the state capital of Wiesbaden awards a biennial scholarship to support artists. Artists whose place of residence, work or birth is Wiesbaden were able to apply for the scholarship, which was publicly advertised. The jury agreed on the artist Ankabuta.
The scholarship was awarded for the first time in 2009. It was initially aimed exclusively at female artists and was awarded annually in various cultural fields. Since 2013, visual artists have been able to apply every two years.
Scholarship holder 2020: Artist Ankabuta
A total of 14 applications from all areas of the visual arts were received for this year's theme "Fascination Decor", all of which met the guidelines. After an in-depth discussion, the jury unanimously agreed on the artist Ankabuta. The scholarship is endowed with 10,000 euros and includes a presentation at the Kunsthaus in the following year.
The jury was made up of Dr. Simone Husemann (Catholic Adult Education), Beatrixe Klein (Women's Museum Wiesbaden), Head of Cultural Affairs Axel Imholz, Dr. Peter Forster (Museum Wiesbaden) and the new Head of the Fine Arts Department at the Cultural Office, Monique Behr.
Ankabuta was born in South Korea in 1980, where she first attended the Fine Art Chung-Ang University before going on to study at the renowned Kunsthochschule Kassel under Professor Dorothee von Windheim and Professor Urs Lüthi. She lives and works in Wiesbaden. The young, multi-award-winning artist can already look back on a busy exhibition schedule and is internationally oriented.
Ankabuta convinced the jury with her skillful handling of various artistic techniques of different dimensions in combination with well thought-out, expansive concepts. As the winner of the Vordemberge-Gildewart Scholarship, she was featured in the 2012 group exhibition "eine/r aus siebzehn" at the Museum Wiesbaden with a poetic work in which her filigree wire mesh works played a leading role. Next year, she will cast a spell over the audience at the Kunsthaus Wiesbaden with her installation created especially for the Kunsthalle.
