Infopoints pilot project - container and web app

for the Committee for Schools, Culture and Town Twinning on 20.03.2025

The Cultural Advisory Board's Visibility Working Group would like to take up an idea from Mr. Michael Eibes, a designer based in Wiesbaden, and suggest a model project for digital info points. If the model project proves successful, the aim is to adapt it to several locations in the heart of Wiesbaden.
The model project should be seen as a "work in progress", i.e. noticeably unfinished and visibly expandable. It is divided into two basic and interlinked projects:

  • A transportable, designed container with lingering quality, which will be placed in the heart of the city, in the Historic Pentagon.
  • An editorially supported web application (webapp) that offers the possibility of independent information on cultural programs and institutions.

The Cultural Advisory Board recommends that the Committee for Schools, Culture and Town Twinning adopt the following resolution:

The city council is requested to

  1. to award a model project "Infopoints" for a container including the development of a web app, which offers passers-by in the Historic Pentagon the opportunity to independently obtain information about Wiesbaden's cultural program while remaining in the city. The concept is designed to be ready for implementation as early as summer 2025 and to be modularly expandable in the future.
  2. For the physical location, a container is to be purchased that can be transported (without heavy-duty transportation). The following should be considered when purchasing the basic module:
    a. Foldable street furniture (tables and chairs/benches)
    b. Flyer stands
    c. Power supply (operation via solar cells)
    d. Equipment for a catering operation (refrigerator, coffee machine, kettle, dishes)
    e. At least two digital displays (inside and outside)
  3. The web app should be designed with a simple structure and without registration. It should be accessible either independently or via QR code on the container. Users should be able to reach their destination in just a few clicks. The content of the web app should contain the following in the basic module:
    a. Current highlights of the cultural program in Wiesbaden
    b. Programs of the cultural institutions (primarily the independent scene)
    c. Links to the websites of the cultural institutions
  4. Personnel resources must be considered for the conception and operation of the web app, the operation and administration of the container and the use of the digital displays. The concept should also include the organization and management of the use of the container by cultural institutions for the purpose of self-promotion or for cultural programs.
  5. The pilot project and its implementation are to be presented to the committees as soon as possible. The aim is to start in 2025.
