Velvet's Theater
The Velvets Theater was founded in Prague in 1967 and is one of the few "black theaters" in the world.
At Velvets Theater in Wiesebaden, the audience experiences something unique and fascinating in equal measure: Here, the actors are invisible!
In 1967, a group of seven actors in Prague developed the so-called "Black Theater". The special feature of this form of performance is a stage lined with black velvet, on which the actors are also dressed in black and cannot be seen by the audience. This allows them to bring objects or puppets to life as if by magic and create amazing illusions for the audience. Since the Prague group of actors moved to Wiesbaden in 1970, this rare form of theater can also be experienced in Germany. Full-length productions are staged at the Velvets Theater, including operas such as The Magic Flute, which appear in a completely new light, and fairytale productions such as Snow White, which make children's eyes light up.
In the more recent plays, the tried-and-tested, sophisticated technique of black theater is combined with acting, singing, dance and film clips to create a new, entertaining form of theater enriched with multi-layered content.
