Salon Strozzi

Barbara Strozzi was one of the most exciting female composers before 1700. On Friday, April 25, the Staatstheater Wiesbaden will once again stage a sit-in on the main stage with baroque music in honor of the composer.

She garnered great enthusiasm for her dazzling, refined music and yet performed almost exclusively within her own four walls: Barbara Strozzi, singer and one of the most exciting and prolific composers before 1700.

French director Maëlle Dequiedt now wants to show the world what she has missed and has teamed up with the singers taking part in the evening, the "Barbaras". In this upside-down world of the director, perspectives change and the audience gets to know the theater from a different perspective.

"Salon Strozzi" is a revitalized form of Barbara Strozzi's "Accademia", a closed evening that combines singing and philosophical debates. Between light and darkness, in a fragile yet powerful sound installation, spaces open up to which access is otherwise closed.
