Schlachthof Cultural Center
The Schlachthof cultural center with the Kulturpark is a venue for large and small concerts in the hall and in the Kesselhaus. The 60/40, a bar and restaurant, is also part of the Kulturpark.
Today, the cultural center, which is still run as a collective, is the largest socio-cultural center in Hesse and a venue known throughout Germany. Located in the middle of the constantly evolving "Kulturpark" leisure area, it has had a new event hall since 2012, which can accommodate up to 2,400 guests and also has rehearsal rooms for almost 50 bands and five workshops/studios for artists.
Right next door, in the over 100-year-old water tower, the "secret landmark of Wiesbaden", the "60/40" restaurant with garden restaurant and the "Kesselhaus", the Schlachthof's small concert hall with a capacity for 300 guests, have been housed since spring 2015. Up to 450 events are held at the Schlachthof throughout the year, attracting around 300,000 visitors. And that from a catchment area that - depending on the act - goes beyond the borders of Hesse and even Germany.
The concert program reads like a "Who's Who" of contemporary pop music. From hip-hop to punk rock, from indie to electro, from reggae to hardcore, from soul and global sounds to (neo-)classical music, jazz and avant-garde, the range of musicians who have already taken to the stage here is vast. In addition to renowned international artists, the program is also dedicated to developments outside the mainstream, underground acts and local artists. Theater performances, flea markets, readings, political events and, last but not least, dance events and parties complete the offer. The Schlachthof sees its task as making the orchestra of society as a whole resound with all its voices, as dissonant as it is harmonious, and often financing small events with large ones.
