Important finds from the Nassau Antiquities Collection (SNA) provide fascinating insights into military life on the border. Everyday objects from civilian settlements along the Limes and from the hinterland paint a picture of the people who lived in the region.

Water Power Identity
Brochure accompanying the sam's special exhibition on the Wiesbaden Year of Water
From the middle of the 19th century, Wiesbaden's international reputation as a spa and bathing resort grew. The so-called "world spa town" even outshone Baden-Baden until the beginning of the First World War. However, Wiesbaden's hot springs were already being used for spas in Roman times. They are the reason why Wiesbaden is the oldest continuously populated urban area in Hesse. The waters of "Aquae Mattiacorum", as Wiesbaden was called in Roman times, were known all the way to the capital of the Roman Empire and already provided "international flair" back then. With the Roman beginnings of Wiesbaden's bathing tradition and its perception, interpretation and impact around 1900, the special exhibition and accompanying brochure are dedicated to the two most important eras for the bathing culture of the city of Wiesbaden.
