Stop FGM/C
From February 9 to 19, 2023, sam - Stadtmuseum am Markt - presented the special exhibition "Stop FGM/C - They promised me a wonderful party" on the topic of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting.
Stop FGM/C - "They promised me a wonderful feast ..."
The exhibition, conceived by TERRE DES FEMMES, was shown in cooperation with Donum Vitae Wiesbaden, Kinderschutzbund OV Wiesbaden e.V., Sozialdienst katholischer Frauen e.V. Wiesbaden, Frauengesundheitszentrum Sirona, Kommunales Frauenreferat and Caligari FilmBühne.
"They promised me a glorious feast ..." aimed to highlight the significance of genital mutilation as an expression of global discrimination and violence against the female sex. The exhibition was intended to help ensure that those affected are not perceived exclusively as victims, but rather as survivors. More and more courageous women and men are rebelling against this practice. The exhibition wanted to give them a voice and a face.
To mark the International Day against FGM on February 6, the Wiesbaden FGM/C (Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting) Working Group had planned a series of events for 2023, including this special exhibition. For over two years, the Wiesbaden FGM/C Working Group has been dealing with the causes, consequences and help in the context of female genital mutilation/cutting.
Admission to the special exhibition at sam was free of charge.
