The invisible becomes visible - Greek life in Wiesbaden today

"The invisible becomes visible" - this was the title of a photo exhibition about Greek-born guest worker children in the Marktkeller from March 15 to April 2, 2023. In this documentary exhibition, the children of Greek former guest workers gave very private insights into their lives. They spoke very openly and authentically about the search for their cultural identity, belonging in an immigrant society and the feeling of having found a home in a cosmopolitan city.

The exhibition was based on the previous project "You are only a stranger until you know each other" by the German-Greek project group led by Maike Wöhler and Christos Mantzios. The publication of the same name by cultural scientist Maike Wöhler dealt with the labor migration of first-generation Greek guest workers in Wiesbaden.

In collaboration with the curators Maike Wöhler and Christos Mantzios, the Wiesbaden-based photo artist Tom Greiner has captured very private insights into the everyday lives of citizens of Greek origin. Attributions such as "foreign" or "different" disappear in the confrontation with the people depicted. The migration project was carried out as a joint German-Greek project.

The previous exhibition on Greek labor migration in Wiesbaden can be seen virtually at https://www.griechen-in-wiesbaden.de in a 360-degree exhibition.

Both projects were funded by "Demokratie leben in Wiesbaden".
