The writer and dramaturge Necati Öziri took over the joint Poetry Lectureship of the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and the Cultural Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden in the winter semester 2024/25 and was thus the 25th Poetry Lecturer in this context.
The writer and dramaturge Necati Öziri, born in the Ruhr area in 1988, designed the anniversary edition of the event series. The first poetry lecturer in the 2004/05 winter semester was the Swiss writer Peter Stamm.
After studying German, New German Literature and Philosophy in Bochum, Istanbul and Berlin, Necati Öziri initially made a name for himself as a dramaturge and worked at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, among other places. His first drama "Vorhaut" (2014), which he co-authored, was followed by his own plays, such as the highly acclaimed portrait of young people with a history of migration "Get Deutsch or Die Tryin'" (2017).
About the Poetry Lectureship
The Poetry Lectureship sees itself as a special contribution to Wiesbaden's cultural life. In the lectures, authors are encouraged to examine their own work. The writing process and biographical background of the work can be illuminated, poetological explanations provided or motivic and literary-historical classifications "ventured". The authors are free to choose their own content. In the readings, the authors present selected texts, if possible from their latest publications.
