The "KIWI - Children's and Youth Audiobook Award" from the state capital of Wiesbaden went to narrator Birte Schnöink for her narration in the audiobook "Gras unter meinen Füßen" by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, published by Hörcompany. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and was awarded at the end of the hr2-Hörfest Wiesbaden on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 3 p.m. as part of a children's listening gala in the Kleines Haus of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden.

For over 20 years, the Children's and Young People's Audiobook Prize of the State Capital of Wiesbaden has been awarded in cooperation with the jury of the hr2 Audiobook Best List and is one of the most highly endowed prizes in this field.

The children's and youth audiobook of the year 2024 "Gras unter meinen Füßen" by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley takes us deep into the dramatic events of the Second World War and at the same time depicts the very personal experiences of a young girl who, against all odds, develops into a self-confident young woman. Ada lives with her mother and little brother in London. Because she has a clubfoot, her mother is ashamed of her and won't let her leave the house. When London is bombed during the Second World War, the children are evacuated to the countryside. After a difficult start, Ada blossoms. Here in the country, she feels the grass under her feet for the first time. The strong will and intelligent world view of the first-person narrator Ada are effortlessly conveyed by Birte Schnöink. Her voice sounds believably like ten-year-old Ada, but also embodies all the other characters very well. The exciting, touching and very multi-layered story is particularly captivating.
